Nato to create high-readiness force to counter Russian threat | World news | The Guardian

Russia is the idiot in this scenario. Now Putin really does have a meaningful challenge. Why ever would it challenge normalcy to effectively create a response action in the form of a fast world military readiness group capable of effectively dominating its territory? Poke the hawk and a squabble follows. The arrogance and stupidity of Putin is alarming to say the least. We don't know what he is thinking because he is probably not really in charge of events, nor will he ever be. His lying to locals may even spark a revolution in his own country. We will remember Putin for his lies and bearing of false witness.

If China has any sense it will dump Russia as a lost cause and a source of future fossil pollution that it won't be able to survive with... China is not going the correct direction with paranoid Russia.

"The summit will see calls led by US for increased defence spending to confront the Russian threat.

Officials said the spearhead force could be used against other emerging threats in the future. Asked by reporters if the spearhead group might be used against Islamic State in Iraq, a Nato official said it was premature to speculate on that."

I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth. ... more!
