Go with your competences! Perhaps, there is room for hardware competition and another slot that's American. It would be best to start early and make all those mistakes!

McGuinty calls on Ottawa to help him open up the North - The Globe and Mail
Pity Canada can't do a better job itself without exporting all those gems, gold, and precious metals for bracelets worn in India! We do seem to be able to fight wars in way off places and may need better minerals for more efficient weapons? Who is McGuinty trying to fool? We need mental resources to build better methods of saving energy and resources!
