What Bill Gates Got Wrong About Why Nations Fail - By Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson | Foreign Policy
Two ? academics on the warpath?
Trying to figure out why nations fail is somewhat silly if you begin with a linear model. In any event, for total social failure there is probably a host of small factors that add up to a pretty big whole. All theories are in danger of being speculation because it's very hard to forecast out of the box and sometimes the smallest things really do have a butterfly effect. In any event, chaos is normally on the rise and there is an Achilles heal in almost all life and organic mechanism dependent so much on balance. Disequilibrium rules as Gates well knows, and to live longest you need to have the soundest of moral principles, whatever these might be?
Bill Gates, for an engineer, is remarkable. I don't understand what the Foreign Policy writers hope to get out of criticism. I do know that they are in danger of being seen as fairly unsophisticated come lately's, even in foreign policy issues!
Does Stephen Harper Work for an American Underground Movement Preparing Canada as Some Sick American Plan
You might wonder! It begins with the basic erosion of values and responsibilities. Too many are missing from the expounded conservatism of Harper's government.
Fair play is a Canadian value as is respect for native people's and their values.
The elimination of CIDA is an ugly side of Harper's government which seems to want the end to democracy. Sure it expounds such values, but its actions are downright autocratic and irresponsible. The buck is worshiped as the highest value in Harper 's scheming!
Pollution is not an intrinsic Canadian value, but it is creeping pollution that seeps from Harper's conservatism!
Creeping conservative side Americanization of Canada. There's little Canadian about Harper's government policies. Who funds the Conservative party these days? I see the worst of values upheld as norms. What has gone wrong?
If it's not a conspiracy of the American right it has to be outright stupidity. Is this a preparation to install American conservative values in Canada? What a shame!

Canadian Political impressions
I used to think the Progressive Conservative Party was good, but they now have unCanadian policies and focus on rubbish!
The NDP now has an amazing leader and I wish them well.
It is important that the Liberal Party regain a majority in Federal Parliament based on Canadian thinking.
I don't want the Conservatives to win another election for a hundred years and believe that I have very good reasons for this. Their leadership is glaringly deficient and seems about as unCanadian as we could have!
What are they thinking?
Matisse impression
Bob!
I have started the Matisse impression and include some images below! It's possible that I have figured out 80 percent of his paint mixes. Starts with old reliables then increases the colours using ones already used mixed in! That's how he tones down the orange. The yellow and blue can be used to create the green with different hues. He then used some old equivalent to a Payne's grey, or mix of something like titanium white and Mars black. Modern colours are so much less effort.
Image below is background to test colours. Loads of fun and must stop myself from getting carried away!

Sketches from scratches is a provocative blogspot that has grown out of the Wuh Lax experience. It is eclectic, which means that it might consider just about anything from the simple to the extremely difficult. A scratch can be something that is troubling me or a short line on paper. From a scratch comes a verbal sketch or image sketch of the issue or subject. Other sites have other stuff that should really be of interest to the broad reader. I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth.
