Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin set for collision over Syria at G20 summit | World news | The Guardian

Threats from Putin only serve to strengthen Obama's position that Russia is well / almost totally now out of step with history aligning itself with archaic regimes with despicable policies as regards women and the treatment of minorities.

Putin's lack of real leadership technique portrays his giving in to pressures from an archaic branch of former Russian establishment seeking to gain power by force and fear rather than credibility and care.

Such Russian tactics make Russia seem to be a very backward looking society bent on self destruction!

The Syrian leadership with its totalitarian like parading and symbolism is an anachronism!  The people of Syria that are considered rebels are really progressives seeking to move the country out of the morass of the social and moral dark ages.

Neither Putin nor Syria will survive the outright stupidity of their present positioning. The world is not moving in the direction that they wish to go, nor will it ever again.

My Turn: Believe the global warming hype | TahoeDailyTribune.com

When scientists try to make something simple so the general public they fall prey to the sceptics in the public who are not told the complex calculations that really go into scientific consensus building.

Sure the simplistic explanation is an over simplification, but that the story has to be told suggests to the intelligent in an audience that there is more to the issue than meets the eye. In the modern world it's best to bore people with details than try to persuade them with over simplifications that they can refute. People with facts can come to their own conclusions and the most intelligent will probably come pretty close to the truth. So science is not foolproof, but it is useful.

Be pragmatic and embrace the possible even though it stretches the imagination.

I can remember Pierre Trudeau trying to teach Canadians economics in a simple way . All he did was create doubt.

Global warming might stop another Sandy, study finds - THonline.com: National/World

Oh! Sure? And, we know what controls the jet stream and sunspots?

I would still take out insurance. Remember the worst ever storm of 1913 that sank the Canadian fleet on the Great Lakes, or the Hazel hurricane of 1956 that hit the Great Lakes!

The big question is why one such Sandy storm in 700 years (who was counting, anyway), and if it happened once, why not again. Nature can create the same amount of havoc in a multitude of ways?

In the UK, the possibility of the flooding of London should not be discounted despite the Thames barrier.

Michael Fish did not see the great storm that hit Britain in the 1980s even though it was staring him and the TV audience in full view.

Sketches from scratches is a provocative blogspot that has grown out of the Wuh Lax experience. It is eclectic, which means that it might consider just about anything from the simple to the extremely difficult. A scratch can be something that is troubling me or a short line on paper. From a scratch comes a verbal sketch or image sketch of the issue or subject. Other sites have other stuff that should really be of interest to the broad reader. I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth. ... more!
