Fwd: End the House Republican shutdown

For our American friends!

Subject: End the House Republican shutdown

The National Memo

Dear Friend,

This is not Washington dysfunction -- it is tea party recklessness.

The federal government is shut down right now because tea party extremists are holding the government of the United States hostage, and 800,000 federal workers and our many private sector partners are paying the price.

And all it takes is for House Speaker John Boehner to bring the clean government funding bill we passed in the Senate back up for a vote, where it would pass with a bipartisan majority.

I'm joining ten of my fellow senators petitioning Speaker Boehner to bring a clean funding bill up for a vote and end the shutdown.  Join us by signing our petition today.

The American people deserve better than the gridlock and grandstanding that we've seen in Washington in recent months caused by House Republicans, but this shutdown -- and the looming threat of not meeting our obligations and paying our debt -- take obstruction to a whole new level.

The devastating effects of the tea party's government shutdown are real, and they'll only get worse the longer this goes unresolved.

This reckless and irresponsible shutdown puts communities, small businesses and people's livelihoods in Louisiana at risk. It is not fair, and it needs to change.

There's a straightforward solution to this shutdown crisis, and enough votes in the House to end it right now if Speaker Boehner just brings the Senate-passed budget bill to the floor.

Stand with my Senate colleagues and me now: Tell John Boehner to end the shutdown.

The people of Louisiana sent me to Washington to find solutions and keep government working for them, and that's exactly what I intend to do.

Thank you for standing with me and my colleagues today,

Mary Landrieu
U.S. Senator

"Truth and reality, once told or experienced, is only a stranger before the first instance. One must learn to recognise one's ephemeral friends very soon. Some experience, sense and recognise both the truth and reality before it happens, while others never at all."

I think it is important to be frequently optimistic and thoughtful!

Prove It: The Art of Mathematical Argument (through the entertainment of story telling)

We all occasionally need to verify our assumed conclusions.

Reading a great book by Sönke Neitzel and Harald Welzer entitled 'Soldiers' which takes the recording and understanding of history to new levels. It's all done through the study of story telling. Soldiers recount their experiences as stories and reveal more than just history. Their entertainment and word art becomes the ground material for understanding the psyche and the social psychology of people under stress.

In mathematics the stories are even more entertaining?

Sketches from scratches is a provocative blogspot that has grown out of the Wuh Lax experience. It is eclectic, which means that it might consider just about anything from the simple to the extremely difficult. A scratch can be something that is troubling me or a short line on paper. From a scratch comes a verbal sketch or image sketch of the issue or subject. Other sites have other stuff that should really be of interest to the broad reader. I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth. ... more!
