The writer is correct, his brain needs to be reprogrammed to accept that socialism is a necessary structure for future economies to succeed, but not the old fashioned idea that conjures up the images of a spectre of social fascism popular in Germany and Russia. People can / should work hard and reap the rewards of increasing returns to scale under a capitalist socialist system. But, the old images do not apply. Fascism disguised as socialism is historically a disaster.

Krugman is absolutely correct in pointing out this failing of policy makers focusing on increasing money supply and housing ahead of genuine growth of industry i.e. Dreams rather than balance sheets and jobs.

Money is expected to sort out the ills of bad balance sheets. The balance sheets may look good while the economics remains very dubious. The politics is simply that the average person stayed at zero while those that caused the problem or benefited from it, retained their gains and stayed out of jail.
