Wage gap and income inequality growing
San Francisco Bay View » The lessons of Ferguson, Part One: Economic inequality a root cause of unrest
I am haunted by the words spoken by Lesley McSpadden immediately following the shooting death of her son, Michael Brown, at the hands of Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson almost three weeks ago. She said, "Do you know how hard it was for me to get him to stay in school and graduate? You know how many Black men graduate? Not many. Because you bring them down to this type of level, where they feel like they don't got nothing to live for anyway."
Chinese academics give their two cents on Ukraine crisis|Politics|News|WantChinaTimes.com
"Ding Dong, a news commentator, said that if Beijing were to openly back Moscow, this would jeopardize relations with Ukraine as well as China's image, especially as the two countries signed a joint declaration of strategic partnership at the end of 2013."

Learner Chinese pilot loses control of fighter jet near American aircraft
'Kirby elaborated on the incident, saying that the Chinese jet: "crossed under the aircraft with one pass having only 50-100 feet separation. The Chinese jet also passed the nose of the P-8 at 90 degrees with its belly toward the P-8 Poseidon, we believe to make a point of showing its weapons load-out. And then they flew directly under and alongside the P-8, bringing their wingtips, as I said, to within 20 feet. And then conducted a roll over the P-8, passing within 45 feet."'
Taiwan and China concerned about future security
"No country would be as threatened by China's acquisition of the S-400 as Taiwan. As Defense News noted earlier this year, "At present, China's land-based mobile air defense missile systems, HQ-9 and S-300 can reach only a small sliver of northwestern Taiwan….However, with the planned purchase of the 400-kilometer-range Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, China will for the first time have complete air defense coverage of Taiwan."
Discussing the implications of this for Taiwan's defense, York Chen, a former member of Taiwan's National Security Council, told Defense News: "When S-400s work together with Chinese land- and sea-based fighters, the Chinese will have more confidence in sustaining airspace dominance over the Taiwan theater, thus depriving any organized resistance by the Taiwan Air Force and deterring the American intervention."

U.S. High-Altitude Missile System For S. Korea Upsets China, N. Korea, Russia, Poses Problems For South
"The specter of Chinese warplanes buzzing U.S. and Japanese planes adds urgency to U.S. pressure for high-altitude defense in Asia against a still more formidable threat: that of missiles fired by North Korea and maybe even China.
Both the Pentagon and Japan's defense ministry have protested the close calls with Chinese planes while China threatens still more of them and complains about U.S. dreams of installing a "Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense" system in South Korea."
Russia and China and North Korea play a very dangerous game... Spurring on America is rather short sighted. Can have unexpected consequences from unexpected places internal to these countries.

"Now, I hear the heir to the throne is making a determined effort to broaden his tastes with the help of the Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar, who has been preparing Indian cuisine for him at his residences.
"I have cooked Indian food for him many times," the presenter of Curry On With Atul Kochhar tells me. "I help with the Prince's Trust and also the British Asian Trust and I often get asked by him and his trustees to cook for the events, which is fantastic." While the 44-year-old Jamshedpur-born chef declines to reveal the prince's favourite dish, he let slip the meat that he loves the most. "Whenever I am cooking dinner for him, I always put mutton on the menu," he says. "He is a big promoter of British mutton and I have always loved it as it lends itself well to Indian cooking."
I am indeed envious. Perhaps, Prince Charles could invite a loyal subject for moral support?

Kelly McParland: Putin’s czarist fantasies put Europe on brink of the unthinkable | National Post
"Mr. Putin's response has been cynical in the extreme. He continues to deny the obvious, against all evidence. The Russian troops in Ukraine are merely "volunteers" who elected to assist Russian-speaking rebels demonstrate their discontent with the government in Kiev. Ten Russian paratroopers captured in Ukraine were there by "accident" – they got lost during a routine border patrol and somehow ended up in the wrong country. Russians seeking information on images of sons captured in Ukraine are told they've been photoshopped. Russian casualties are buried in clandestine funerals ignored by state media while independent reporters are chased away."

Ukraine crisis: Barroso warns Putin not to push EU to 'point of no return' | World news | theguardian.com
As the Ukrainian president, Petro Poroshenko, claimed there were hundreds of Russian troops and thousands of Russian tanks operating inside his country, the outgoing European commission president, José Manuel Barroso, said: "We are in a very serious, I would say, dramatic situation … where we can reach the point of no return."
France thrown into political turmoil after government dissolved | World news | theguardian.com
The prime minister, a social democrat who has been compared to Tony Blair, acted with characteristic swiftness in a bid to reassert his authority. His aides had let it be known on Sunday that the economy minister, Arnaud Montebourg, had crossed a "yellow line" for his dual crime of criticising both the president of France and a valued ally."
You have to ask why all the austerity to save a few French banks that copy catted American banks.

Russian nationalism and the logic of the Kremlin's actions on Ukraine | World news | theguardian.com
"One type defines "Russian" very broadly to include all of the peoples and religious groups that have traditionally lived in the territory of the former USSR or before that, the Russian Empire. The key call of these nationalists is to reintegrate the territory of the former Soviet states.
A second type of nationalism is a much more exclusive and even racist ethnic Russian nationalism, one committed to a pure Russia free of "polluting" peoples of other ethnicities, or at least those who are not Slavic. The key call of these nationalists is to prevent immigration of unwanted groups and, for some, to bring Russians or Slavs "stranded" abroad back into the Russian state's domain."

While the rest of the world had dreamed of peace Putin contemplated war, biding his time like an old Czar waiting for the opportunity.
He is wrong on several counts about Western intentions, but a individual who has only one tune playing in his mind.
"The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has hit back at accusations that he has effectively invaded Ukraine, accusing Kiev's forces of behaving like Nazis in the conflict in the east and ominously threatening to take his standoff with the west into the disputed Arctic."

EU ministers call for new sanctions against Russia
Is this the modern pacifism in view of the fact Russia read history and knows the soft underbelly of Europeans? He may just awaken a demon and lose Russia to history in the process.
"The foreign ministers were set to propose new sanctions against Russia for consideration at a summit of the bloc's 28 heads of state on Saturday in Brussels.
All options except military action will be considered to punish Russia for pursuing "the wrong path," Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said.
"The European Union should be ready to move forward with possible new measures against Russia because the situation is still getting worse," Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said.
Don't mess with nuclear Russia, Putin says - Yahoo News
"LAKE SELIGER Russia (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Friday Russia's armed forces, backed by its nuclear arsenal, were ready to meet any aggression, declaring at a pro-Kremlin youth camp that foreign states should understand: "It's best not to mess with us."
Putin told the assembly, on the banks of a lake near Moscow, the Russian takeover of Crimea in March was essential to save a largely Russian-speaking population from Ukrainian government violence."
