Re: Theories on Origins of the Universe

Thank you D!

Interesting summary! There are so many ways of trying to grapple with the multiplicity and immensity of our world's.  I am presently being entertained by Brian Greene's "Elegant Universe" in which he explores some pathways new to me. Michio is my favourite writer on these subjects and provides one of the best historical reviews. Of course, Arthur Keostler's "Ghost in the Machine" and "Sleepwalkers" are full of historical avenues to explore.

For my feeble mind, the history of human time is visually mapped right to left, small to large with a line that splits infinitely at each and every conceivable point. I can spread apart an instant and add information. There is, however, no adequate physics to explain the handshaking the occurs between instances, which individually are infinite.

The history of cosmic time, I imagine occuring at each and every singularity and everything is a singularity suggesting that time is only one of an infinite number of non-linear vectors or threads. Still time for me is inexplicable without a handshaking mechanism between instances and phyicists don't seem to have come up with the right mathemics. As a mathematician in statistical analysis, I am used to reducing complete systems to vectors, scalars and matrices. My problem with all of the physics to date is that it assumes scalars are not in themselves vectors. Thus, the speed of light is assumed to be a scalar. This makes no sense to me whatsoever!

I really do think that the mathematics of the social sciences has progressed much further than that of the physical sciences. Obviously, forecasting, which was my bread and butter when I was a business analyst is possible, but not with 'conventionally' taught methods. I was at Birkbeck as a student at the same time as physicists were trying to figure out Uri Geller, and was a co-temporary student with Roger Penrose.

After three months at Cambridge University attempting to grapple with an academic structure that refused to progress away from paradigms that were laughable, I decided to go my own route, bang my own drum. It was not easy, but it gave me insights that was unavailable any other way. I did not discard empericism because that was an essential aspect of my training, but I knew how to get at the heart of problems immediately using uncommon statistical methods.

While at Western, I was told I would flunk. I spent my spare computer time doing factor analyical analysis of the Canadian economy. I, surprise, surprse discovered that it was driven by the price of energy and availability of electricity. An obvious fact today, but in the sixties no one realized the crucial role cheap energy was playing in real economy dynamics. Looking at Libya's exports of crude to Europe, I discovered the wells would run dry fairly soon.... the high European growth rates were directly related to cheap Libyan oil. Well, that study sparked off / contributed to? the cry for an oil cartel within a year, with Libya leading the charge in 1972-3!

Statistical method has allowed physics to progress quantumly!

Everything tells me that we are a strange loop a la Hofstadter, which leads me to conclude that this is a very common characteristic of the universe and that it is aware of itself as a strange loop. What this means is that we are part of an infinitely larger intelligence whatever you might personally conclude about the determinism of physical reality. To me it is very backward to assume the absense of much grander self reflecting intelligences.

That we are potentially aware of each other is amazing and cannot be easily discarded as a real phenomenon, however hard we try to deny it! I think Roger has the answer in that certain physical structures can produce the Hofstadter observer strange loop phenomenon. Roger claimed to have discovered this bridge within the brain! I think Hofstadter might agree that the mathematics certainly supports this. All the remains is for more concrete communications between the higher intelligence orders and our own minute one! The universe is full of different orders of intelligent beings. We are only at the crux of our scale of understanding.

Thanks

Hello Folks:

If you are interested in theories on the origin of the universe, these may tease your intellect.

Sketches from scratches is a provocative blogspot that has grown out of the Wuh Lax experience. It is eclectic, which means that it might consider just about anything from the simple to the extremely difficult. A scratch can be something that is troubling me or a short line on paper. From a scratch comes a verbal sketch or image sketch of the issue or subject. Other sites have other stuff that should really be of interest to the broad reader. I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth. ... more!
