Quebec's Approach is a Poor One as Regards Dress

Last week, after Quebec Premier Pauline Marois unveiled her government's plan to legislate values in Quebec, I published an open letter in the Globe and Mail and Le Devoir that explains why I categorically oppose it.

That's because the PQ government's plan is divisive, negative and inflammatory. And it attacks what we hold most dear -- our right and freedom as individuals to express our beliefs within the context of universally recognized democratic laws and norms.  

I got into public life in part because I believed that politics can unite, rather than divide. That it can dignify, rather than diminish. And that it can strengthen, rather than weaken, the universal rights and freedoms that make Canada the country it is.  

This plan does not represent who we are. Fortunately, I stand secure in the knowledge that Quebecers are better than this.

La semaine dernière, après le dévoilement du projet du gouvernement de la première ministre Pauline Marois de légiférer sur des valeurs québécoises, j'ai publié une lettre ouverte dans Le Devoir et Globe and Mail pour expliquer pourquoi je m'y oppose catégoriquement.

Parce que le plan du gouvernement péquiste est négatif, à forte charge émotive et nourrit la discorde. Cette charte s'attaque à ce qui nous est le plus cher, c'est-à-dire notre droit et notre liberté en tant qu'individu de choisir et d'exprimer nos croyances tout en respectant les lois et les normes démocratiques universellement reconnues.  

Je me suis engagé dans la vie publique en partie parce que je crois que la politique peut unir et non diviser, qu'elle peut valoriser la dignité de l'homme, plutôt que la déprécier, et qu'elle peut renforcer plutôt qu'affaiblir, les droits et libertés universels qui font du Canada ce qu'il est.  

Ce projet ne nous représente pas. Heureusement, ce qui me rassure, c'est ma conviction que les Québécoises et Québécois sont au-dessus de tout cela.

Is the problem that of consumers spending or of businesses producing and selling?  

Spending increases with income increases   .....  a la permanent income expectation! 

Low interest rates really do help pay down consumer debt, but there is conflict between the two policies, that of paying down consumer debt and that of increasing consumer spending. 

Best policy is to raise minimum wage and force companies to be more efficient while reducing incentive of inward migration that keeps wages eternally low and costs so much in welfare and medical expenses.

RAISE THE MINIMUM WAGE!
