Turning to old crop varieties for tough times - CSMonitor.com

It's true our food crops are now so industrial, they aren't farmed by families independently using seed and varieties that have served civilization for thousands of years. Without small farms we are in danger of losing valuable strains of food crops, so it is important to reduce farm scale and increase plant varieties. Allow small farmers to compete with retail giants and industrials! Ask for variety?
