Passage to Benghazi: How to Enter Libya - TIME

We have been quiet too long. It is time to speak out and help the Libyan people with the quest for democracy and open society. The children of Libya have suffered too long.

My memory of Bengazi is of the appalling poverty and warm people caught up in the machinations of a monster, a man who had too much power and very strange and arbitrary ways. A soul of good and bad mixed together so well, you did not know what to think about him, but his deeds against innocents betrayed his ruthlessness.

The city is a haven in a desert, but there had been viable farming.

The Italian farmers who had settled nearby and into Cyrenaica were forceable removed by Gaddafi in the 1970s as he performed his cleansing operations to rid the countryside of Italian and foreign people. The farmlands suffered as local people did not know how to farm as well as the Italian farmers that were forcably evicted in a Mugabe style of violent theft operations and intimidations. He unleashed the worst in people around him for the sake of the totalitarian state as defined by Gaddafi.

He stole their land and auctioned all their property off for a pittance.

He brought Russian agents into Libya to use their techniques of control and subordination.

He used Egyptian women to meet the sexual demands of his inner circle.

He despised Italians then befriended them when he wanted their money.

There is no monster quite like Gaddafi and to compare him to Hitler is very appropriate. He would do the same as Hitler to innocents if he were given the opportunity.

We don't really know what lies beneath the sand in the desert at his hands.

Sketches from scratches is a provocative blogspot that has grown out of the Wuh Lax experience. It is eclectic, which means that it might consider just about anything from the simple to the extremely difficult. A scratch can be something that is troubling me or a short line on paper. From a scratch comes a verbal sketch or image sketch of the issue or subject. Other sites have other stuff that should really be of interest to the broad reader. I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth. ... more!
