Mubarak's holding on to power entails enormous risks for Egypt

The outcome of the people's revolt in Egypt is becoming clearer as the old 'former' President gambles for time to collect his belongings and collect his thoughts. Mubarak's reign is all but over and now the people must decide when to hold elections and the sooner they can move towards a democracy the better. 

Corrupt dictatorships die hard because of the need to collect together and escape with the spoils of bad administration and hoarding. 

What will we see in Egypt after a thirty year reign by a tired old and very worried despot desperate for peace and stubborn to the last? What opportunistic groups will attempt seize the day now that the despot has asked for a fight? Can ordinary people win?
