The rise of Trump helps us decide what our values are. His contradictions on almost every point of policy or attitude rationally allow people of completely opposite views to have overlap with the views of Trump. By having so many views on everything, Trump unites and divides everyone simultaneously. By being opposites, Trump can be absurd. His only goal is winning support and he is absolutely unscrupulous in method. The overlap expands his popularity base. It is however a con artist's trick because Trump occupies the whole of policy space, yes, no and maybe, all at the same time. Its what we in England call mugwump. Trump is Mugwump.
