Failing Model Facebook and such sites as the equivalent to Starbuck coffee shops of serious business

The question is whether the association of coffee shops and books has it's parallel in news sites within social meeting places. Go to Facebook and get friends and family information as news while conversing with friends and family. It's close up news like sitting in a coffee shop gathering energy to look and to browse through books. Notice all the students working away at computers enjoying company like a family gathering.

How does the media create the artificial coffee house experience? What's an electronic substitute for coffee and tea near a bookstore? Is Starbucks a place to meet people and get energised in a social way, a rest from walking around a bookstore, a re-energizer, a place to sample treats with a good friend, a place to relax because of something about the atmosphere and the locality.

Have users put it together yet on the Internet or are they searching for that right combination of interest, relaxation, stimulus, social gathering, refreshment, and re-energising.

Is Starbucks a cultural phenomenon or what?

The three main things are:

1. Coffee or tea or something equally as addictive.

2. The potential for socialising and feeling at ease letting your hair ruffle in public.

3. The atmosphere of learning and/or artistic stimulation.

Now, I have noticed that some Starbucks, Second Cups, Books and Beans, Coffee Culures do this better than others.

To my mind, Facebook fails and as soon as another social site gains my attention I am out of Facebook. I used to think Yahoo had it, but then I was looking for a partner. Then came linked in when I was looking for a job opportunity. Now, I am looking at photos on Facebook and videos on YouTube, but they are really missing the edge. Can you think what that is and become the next social site to make it big. Check out the Chinese sites!

Sketches from scratches is a provocative blogspot that has grown out of the Wuh Lax experience. It is eclectic, which means that it might consider just about anything from the simple to the extremely difficult. A scratch can be something that is troubling me or a short line on paper. From a scratch comes a verbal sketch or image sketch of the issue or subject. Other sites have other stuff that should really be of interest to the broad reader. I try to develop themes, but variety often comes before depth. ... more!
