Struggling with science is healthy. What we see is the difficulty of squaring the range and scale of influences. Governments make policy based on science, but what may seem good logic may fall apart owing to forces not included in the analysis. In other words, policy or belief may be incorrect over the long term because the analysis is partial and suddenly reversible, as in the sand pile effect. We often can't see around a corner until we create an instrument that allows us to see artificially what is actually hidden from view! A problem science has to deal with all the time, yes all the time!
