Turn more workers into capitalists - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"Americans generally are not opposed to economic inequality because we see it as part of modern capitalism. We believe hard work and talent should be materially rewarded. We believe in equality of opportunity. However, when it comes to an equal opportunity to share in the fruits of increasing productivity gains, the system is broken.

According to the Economic Policy Institute, the productivity of American workers rose 80.4 percent between 1973 and 2011, compared to real growth in median income of only 10.7 percent. This means rank-and-file workers are not sharing in the increasing return on capital manifested through higher profits."
